About the Book
Young Adult Fiction
Seventeen-year-old Peregrine Tripp, eager for a gap year adventure before university, stumbles upon Menschen’s Portal Emporium, a shop offering travel through interdimensional portals. Peregrine learns of the Green Door, a sentient portal that has sealed itself to prevent an invasion by a coalition of notorious literary villains.
As a born traveler, Peregrine is the only one who can unlock the portal and secure the silver key needed to stop the conquest. His quest takes him through fantastical dimensions, philosophical allegories, and encounters with legendary literary figures. Peregrine ultimately seals the Green Door, and the final portal takes him into an alternative London in 1880, where he encounters characters from classic novels—refugees escaping a dictatorship in the World of Fiction.
Peregrine takes them to his home on Earth Minor and finds that his devoted girlfriend, Montana, thinking Peregrine dead, has been tricked by a rival into signing a wedding contract. The deceitful clerk Uriah Heep, from David Copperfield, proves to be an unlikely saviour, but Peregrine is abducted to an alternative reality where his life is only a play, and an actress named Julia has taken the part of his beloved Montana. She is the exact double of Montana, but she has a life in another world and rejects Peregrine. Can he get back to the real Montana before the two realities permanently diverge?
