We were overwhelmed by Vienna's monumental buildings, and sought out the more charming corners of the city. This photo journal will feature the quaint alleys as well as the elegance of Imperial Vienna. You'll also take an excursion to the beautiful wine-producing Wachau Valley and cruise along the Danube. We chose to visit Salzburg and the lakeside town of Hallstatt for the scenic beauty of the mountains and lakes. The medieval fortress and nature reserve above Salzburg were easily accessible on foot and provided wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and countryside. Salzburg was as picturesque as one could hope and we thoroughly enjoyed wandering the narrow streets, listening to performers in the squares, and sampling local cuisine. Hallstatt is arguably the most beautiful lakeside town in Austria.
