About the Book
I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order. So it began in 1995 with a few city dwellers wish for the peace and tranquility of a garden oasis right in their own backyard.
In the welcoming community of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, nestled between beautiful Shore Road and the sparkling waters of the Narrows, four and a half acres of rambling parkland have been transformed by the inspiration and nurturing of a community of volunteers into the Narrows Botanical Gardens.

About the Creator
Dave Foss is a New York–based fine art photographer whose work celebrates the power of serendipity — those rare, unplanned moments that can’t be staged or repeated. For more than fifty years, he has created images that balance humor, honesty, and vulnerability, often in locations that are anything but predictable. His photography blurs the line between documentary and fine art, capturing what happens in the instant before a moment disappears. Foss’s projects often pair images with the stories behind them, revealing how chance, trust, and timing shape his collaborations. His photographs have been exhibited from Brooklyn to the Pacific Northwest and published both in print and online. Jem Magazine, Volume One continues his lifelong pursuit of finding art in what wasn’t supposed to happen.
