About the Book
The 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Lorraine, France was a special time for the small number of American World War II veterans and their families able to travel to France for the celebrations, remembrances and gratitude from the hearts of generations of the people of Lorraine. Now in their 90s, the veterans knew, that for most of them, this would be the last time they would return to Metz, Thionville and the surrounding villages where they had once so bravely fought for freedom from the tyranny of the Nazis. These photos and stories chronicle the events and people in the Thionville area November 9-16 and those in Metz November 20-25, 2014. During the three days between the two celebrations, friends hosted the author and her husband on an incredible journey through areas in France and Germany where the author's father, one of the Iron Men of Metz, had been in November and December 1944.
