    About the Book

    Edit

Frieze London, staged by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, the publishers of Frieze Magazine, first opened its doors in Regent’s Park in 2003 and soon established itself as the leading contemporary Art Fair in the World.

The Fair brings together the World’s leading contemporary art dealers in one place and there current street fashion, which influences and is influenced by the cutting edge art of the moment, and contemporary art meet.

The Fair attracts visitors from every discipline of art. Museums and Art Galleries send their curators and directors to view to keep abreast of that “now” moment in art and to buy and consolidate their collecting policies. Tate Modern consistently buys each year and throws a party for Patrons and Friends to see their latest thinking and purchases.

The point about both the exhibitors and their staff, observed together with the fair’s visitors who are mainly drawn from collectors, professionals, artists, art students and those both passionate and simply curious about contemporary art and “what is happening”, is that they are all themselves part of modern culture and their apparel and appearance reflects and compliments the very art they have come to view.

Peter Nahum has photographed at Frieze London every year since 2007, except 2009. Each year he chooses a different day and stays around three hours. VIP days are for professionals and serious collectors and curators, whereas toward the end of the week the fair is packed with the young and artists. Exhibitors are full of energy at the beginning and definably flagging toward the end. So photographic results depend on which day of the week is chosen.

Peter Nahum’s photographs are laced with humour. His images are all about contemporary people and how their “look” mirrors and compliments the art. They fix in time, as does all the best “street photography”, the cutting edge of the now.
