    “Class of Contrast” takes you inside the classrooms and inside the homes of disadvantaged children from one neighborhood in Maceio, Alagoas - Brazil who attend Escola Estrela do Mar, (Starfish School) a school that was started in a small house and that has grown into an enriching environment for these children to seize their futures and follow their dreams.

    Featuring photographs taken during school hours as well as after school, observers are able to see contrasting environments and imagine the future these children could face if not for the school next door to their neighborhood

    Matthew Carasella began his photography career at Popular Photography Magazine in 2003 where he produced, Digital Days, a digital photography-training workshop across the United States. After leaving the magazine, he worked as a photographer for Patrick McMullan Company from 2005-2008. Currently, he owns and operates SocialShutterbug.com. He has photographed NYC’s fashion, art & social scene for nearly a decade. Clients include The Whitney Museum of American Art, Hermès of Paris, Waterford Crystal, Hearst Magazines, Henri Bendel, Luxe, Architectural Digest, The Jewish Museum and the LUPUS Foundation.
