The same can be said about photography. You just have to find the right moment … and so on. Thomas Garrecht’s photographs show that he knows how to use the right moment. He’s not focused on beautiful images of beautiful people, instead he focuses on the person within. An example of this is ‘Schwabing’s Gisela‘. Some people say to her: “A terrible photo, you can see every wrinkle and how old you are.” She says: “A good photo. That’s who I am. I am that old and I do have wrinkles.”

Klavierspielen ist einfach, heißt es: Man muss nur im richtigen Augenblick mit dem richtigen Finger auf die richtige Taste drücken. Mit dem Fotografieren verhält es sich ähnlich. Man muss nur im richtigen Augenblick… Die Foto-Arbeiten von Thomas Garrecht zeigen, dass er weiß, den richtigen Augenblick zu nutzen. Ihm geht es nicht um schöne Bilder schöner Menschen, sondern um ‘den Menschen‘. Ein Beispiel dafür ist das Portrait der ‘Schwabinger Gisela‘. Manche Besucher sagen zu ihr: „Ein schreckliches Foto, da sieht man ja jede Falte und wie alt du bist.” Sie selbst sagt dazu: „…ein gutes Foto. Das bin ich. Ich bin doch so alt und ich habe doch Falten.“
