A photo journey with the Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors of Task Force 1st Battalion 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division. From their garrison in Friedberg, Germany, the Bandits initially deployed to western Nineveh province in January 2006. There they relieved 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Forward Operating Bases in Sinjar, Rabeah, and Bi'aj. From these bases, the Bandits worked with Iraqi Army, Border Police, and Police to interdict insurgent movement across the Syrian border and to transition security of the region to Iraqi control. In May, the Bandits were ordered to Ramadi, Al Anbar Province, to relieve elements of the 2nd Brigade, 28th Infantry Division then conduct offensive operations to rest the city from Al Qadia control. In the months that followed the unit engaged in the longest period of sustained combat in it long and storied history. In intense urban offensive and counter-insurgency operations, the Bandits liberated more than 100,000 Iraqis and decisively changed the security situation in the city. This is our story in pictures...
