    About the Book

    Edit

In north-west Western Australia, the Pilbara region encompasses over half a million square kilometers of arid country where some of the earth’s oldest rock formations can be found.

Pilbara rock is estimated to have formed about 3500 million years ago. Zircon found in the Pilbara is estimated to be 4276 million years old.

With less than 50,000 people living in the small towns that centre on the mining industry, the region is mostly wild and deserted with spectacular natural features protected within its national parks.

Karijini is the largest of these parks, the second largest in Western Australia. Its banded iron, shale and dolomite lined gorges offer some of the most unique and spectacular scenery in Australia.

On the coast is the Ningaloo Marine Park protecting a 260km long coral reef that almost reaches the shore at Coral Bay permitting diving and reef exploration right off the beach.

This book features stunning landscape photographs of the Pilbara region serving not only as a fine photography coffee table book, but also an inspiring travel guide.

Ancient, diverse, unique and magical - this is The Pilbara.
