    About the Book

    Edit

A selection of Photographic Images of the South Nahanni Watershed.
Many of the images in this book are captioned with lyrics of songs by David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash.

Canada’s and Dehcho First Nations gift to future generations. Nahanni National Park Reserve, protects a wilderness watershed in the Mackenzie Mountains, in the land of the Dehcho Dene where the natural processes remain the dominant shaping forces. Some of Canada's most spectacular mountains, glaciers, canyons, waterfalls, hot springs, extensive plateaus, and karst formations remain intact preserving significant cultural and spiritual sites of the Dehcho people. Naturally-occurring northern mountain and boreal plant communities thrive alongside associated native animal species, including woodland caribou, moose and grizzly bears. It is recognized as both a Canadian Heritage River and the first World Heritage Site.

The Dehcho Dene consider themselves inseparable from the land. Traditional subsistence harvesting continues to be an integral and sustainable part of the ecosystem and occurs in accordance with Dene law and principles. It continues to be revered as a place of mystery, spirituality and healing.
