Eight Men, 1350 Miles, One Goal: Cycling For The Emer Casey Foundation
An eight man cycling team from the seaside town of Youghal, in East Cork, set off from Navan, Co.Meath at 20:30 hrs, on Tuesday 14th September, 2010, to participate in The Race Around Ireland for:
The Emer Casey Foundation.
The Emer Casey Foundation was set up in Youghal to provide funding to the Discovary Foundation to secure the best independent research to detect the early signs of Uterine and Ovarian Cancer.
The eight cyclists from Team Youghal, with a direct support crew of eight, started in Leinster and travelled through Ulster, Connaught and Munster, before heading back to the finish line in Navan, from where they started.
Team Youghal are a group of leisure cyclists and consist of:
Ger Flanagan, Tommy Roche, Christy McCarthy, Brian Fitzgerald, Kerian Groeger, Eoin Whyte, Michael McCarthy and John Twomey.
Team Youghal were able to participate in The Race Around Ireland due to the skill of a very efficient support crew: Tom Fitzgerald, Peter Coady, Robert Heffernan, Aonghus O'Brion, Claude McCarthy, Jimmy Healy, Peter Roche and Maurice Flanagan.
Team Youghal were also supported by a dedicated Media Crew that consisted of: John Hennessy, Darina Clancy, Ray Flanagan and Derek Kiely.
Youghal Kia provided vehicles to Team Youghal and extensive Media coverage was provided by The Evening Echo and Youghal News, with Radio coverage from 96FM, Cork, and Community Radio Youghal, and TV coverage from TV3.
Accomodation for Team Youghal was provided by; The Carlton, Maldron, Clarion and Quality Hotel Groups.
The Race Around Ireland is Europe's toughest endurance race and is second only to The Race Across America.
