    About the Book

    Edit

This special Samhain collection of The Hidden Manuscripts gathers stories and rituals from the nights when autumn deepens, the old year reaches its end, and the threshold between what can be seen and what can only be sensed feels very near.

Inside, you'll find stories of why apples hold stars inside, what black cats are really doing when they keep watch, and why fallen leaves dance before they return to the earth. You'll meet the Weather Witch who knocks three times, discover what owls know, enter the Witch's Garden, and listen for whispering candles. You'll learn of the first silent supper, why the dead were once given the best chair, and what happens on the night the year turns.

There are stories here of houses with spirits of their own, a book that keeps unfinished things, candles burning in windows, the thinning of the veil, and the Threshold itself.

Alongside the stories are eight Samhain rituals and practices: a Samhain tea ritual, the old mystery of the Samhain Lots, apple divination, the Three Lanterns, Nine Offerings at the Threshold, and a light for those who came before. There are pages for stepping beneath the October sky and for listening for what might return when the world grows quiet.

These are stories and invitations—to enter the old mystery of Samhain, to remember, to listen, and to notice what becomes visible when we stand for a little while at the threshold between one season and the next.
