About the Book
The Conflict is Jolie Monet’s journey of documenting her family from New Orleans over the course of two trips. These images captured over a year apart form one another showcase the commemoration of one brother and the funeral of the other whose lives were both taken by addiction. Through these images, she reflects on how her family handles their grief and continuation of daily life at the same time.
This book isn’t meant to offer answers as much as it is asking questions. Her lens is meant to create space for empathy and honesty by acknowledging and photographing the parts of life we may not feel comfortable to talk about.
The Conflict invites the viewer to consider their own internal battles and persistently asks the question: What is your conflict, and what will it take for you to finally put it to rest?
