About the Book
Perennial Song is our 24th issue and a Black, intersectional collection on grief, with narrative nonfiction about Black girlhood; loss of wildlife in Southern California; white queers gentrifying East Harlem; mourning mothers in the midst of endless war; the sons who never got to be boys.
If you’re in a fiction mood, we have short stories about the missing cousin at auntie’s funeral and a kitchen filled with recipes from the ancestors. For the poets, see: abortion doulas, love children, porchside pumpkins, mothers who do not understand queer love.
Gorgeous illustrations by artist Ava Anglin give these stories wings. This latest collection was edited by Ava Emilione, Cecilia Innis, and Yumna Elhdari, as well as guest editors Stacey Fabo and Leïssa Romulus.
