    About the Book

    Edit

Written in English and Japanese. This book entails the life story of Junsei and Kazuko Yagi, who moved to the Unites States from Japan in the 1960s to start a Plum orchard in Northern California. The two were dreamers. In their later years in life, they started an organic orchard from scratch, and delivered Umeboshi pickled plums and homemade miso to many people. Junsei served as a Kamikaze fighter pilot during World War II; sometime towards the end of the war, Junsei receives a telegram from his teacher, Gyoichi Sakurazawa (George Ohsawa), founder of the macrobiotics movement. “Ration your food, and when the end comes, become a winner” was the wise words of Sakurazawa-sensei. After the war, Sakurazawa-sensei always encouraged his students, “take a leap and spread the macrobiotic way of living to the world”. With those words in mind and 42 dollars in hand, Junsei made his way across the ocean to the United States; he was 42 years in age. Kazuko who was prone to sickness learned macrobiotics from Lima Sakurazawa. Kazuko regained her health by changing her lifestyle to a macrobiotic one.
