    About the Book

    Edit

In 1911 Vancouver's first sports team mogul, Con "Don't Argue" Jones, paid big money to assemble a team of professional, mostly eastern Canadian lacrosse players to wrest the Minto Cup from the resolutely local and low-paid New Westminster Salmonbellies, who had held a stranglehold on the Cup since 1908. In a championship series pitting big city against small city, locals against all-stars, and salaries against gate splits, the biggest winners were the fans who packed stadiums to the bursting points to witness the greatest battle ever waged on sports fields in Canada. Historian W. Bruce MacDonald, author of Salmonbellies vs. The World: The Story of the Most Famous Team in Lacrosse and Their Greatest Rivals and Minto and Mann: The Untold Stories of Canada's Dynastic Lacrosse Teams, tells another untold story of Con Jones and his Vancouver Lacrosse Club and its bid to dethrone the reigning Minto Cup champion New Westminster Salmonbellies.
