    About the Book

    Edit

Daphne's musings reflect her delight and awe of life on an island in the Salish Sea. She shares her seemingly mundane encounters with the Island's eccentric pioneers and creatures with insight and wonder. Her sketches and illustrations of the nature of the Pacific Northwest range from microscopic diatoms to burgeoning spring wildflowers to glacial boulders. Daphne shares it all with endearing curiosity and whimsy of an artist, scientist, and Nana that lives on a craggy outreach on a tranquil island in the San Juan Archipelago.

I have always lived near water: lakes, rivers and oceans. When the opportunity to live on an island presented itself, I was delighted. Thus began my island life. My educational background is in biology and art history. My present interests are art and nature journaling. I have previously co-authored a book on Northwest Native-style art. I live on Lopez Island, WA where i have been involved in volunteer programs from mentorship and bird counts to recording plankton samples and stomach contents of salmon. My watercolor art pieces are found from Dubai to Issaquah, Washington. This book is a compilation and condensation of an illustrated journal I kept during my first ten years on the island. My small house is perched on a craggy rock outcropping a few feet from the waters of the Salish Sea.
